NATIONAL CARROM CHAMPIONSHIP

In its very year of inception, SRM Madurai College for Engineering and Technology(SRM MCET), Madurai, heralded its accomplishment by organizing the 48^th Junior National Level Carrom Championship in its premises in collaboration with Madurai District Carrom Association, Tamilnadu State Carrom Association and All India Carrom Federation. This four-day National event held between 10.02.2024 and 13.02.2024 attracted 469 players (both Boys and Girls) and 120 referees from the length and breadth of India. Amidst youthful vigour and jubilance the inaugural ceremony started.

Miss.R.Harini, Correspondent of SRM MCET, delivered the presidential address welcoming all the players and referees from various parts of the country. In her address, she proudly admitted that SRM Group of Institutions always give top priority to sports activity on a par with curricular activities making education a synergy of sound knowledge and sound body.

Honourable Minister Shri. P. Moorthi, Ministry of Registration and commercial Tax, Tamilnadu, in his inaugural address was all in praise for the Institution for organizing a National Level Sports event in Tamilnadu. He emphatically stressed the importance of sports activity in everyone’s life and praised the Management for its sponsorship to the tune of 7.7 lakh rupees and congratulated the efforts of the staff of SRM MCET for their commitment, meticulous planning, and enthusiastic hospitality. He promised to extend his support through the Ministry of Sports and Youth Welfare for encouraging the youth to explore their talent in sports.

The presence of the renowned Arjuna Awardee for Carrom, Shri.Anthony Maria Irudhayam – a two-time World Carrom Champion and nine-time National Champion added a feather in the crown. He motivated the players with his composed presence and sparkling vibrance.

The real driving force Dr. S. Ramachandran, Director Academics-SRM Group of Institutions, Dr.S.Durairaj, Principal, SRM MCET, and Mr.M.Manoharan, Group Coordinator of SRM Group of Institutions, presided over the inaugural event. Confessing the importance given to sports activities by SRM Group of Institutions, they appreciated the executive body comprising Dr.R.Sathish Kumar, Director of Physical Education, SRM MCET and the team for their incomparable dedication in organizing the National-level event and for facilitating the participants-guests. Their endearing support to everyone was an inspiration for more events to take place in SRM MCET in the upcoming days.  

  The joy and the pleasure witnessed by everyone present ensured the indelible mark of victory the host institution earned that would be engraved in the history of Carrom Championship,forever.
