Event Summary:
The Inauguration of the ISTE Faculty Chapter and The ISTE Sponsored Faculty Development Programme on Recent Trends in Additive Manufacturing was enthusiastically held on April 25, 2025, at SRM MCET.
The event commenced with Tamil Thai Vazhthu, followed by dignitaries’ ceremonial lighting of the kuthuvilakku. Vice Principal Dr. S. Sambath, delivered a warm welcome address, setting a gracious tone for the day.
Dr. R. Ashok Kumar shared the vision and objectives of the ISTE Faculty Chapter at SRM MCET.
The gathering was honoured to host two distinguished guests:
Prof. K. Sourirajan, Honorable Secratary and Treasurer, ISTE Tamilnadu Section,
Dr. A. Sankara Subramanian, Chairman ISTE Tamilnadu Section
Both guests were felicitated by the institution with heartfelt appreciation for their lifelong dedication to technical education.
The Presidential Address by our Principal, Dr. S. Durairaj, emphasized the significance of faculty development and the institution’s commitment to academic excellence. This was followed by the Inaugural Address by Dr. A. Sankara Subramanian who delivered an inspiring talk about young engineers and fostering innovation. The Special Address was delivered by Prof. K. Sourirajan, who discussed the need for involvement of students in both academics and personality development. He enthusiastically encouraged students to foster Dedication, Devotion and Leadership Qualities. The addresses from chief guests inspired the audience with their insights on education and innovation.
The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. V. Jeyabalaji, HoD/ Mechanical, expressing gratitude to the guests, participants, and organizing team
The technical sessions of the FDP on Recent Trends in Additive Manufacturing involved presentations featuring:
Dr. S. Sabarish, Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering, SRM MCET, delivering a session on “Additive Manufacturing: Principles, Practices, and Possibilities.” The presentation thoroughly explained the fundamental principles of Additive Manufacturing, detailed the various available methods and the procedures involved in each. It also covered the different types of AM processes and their specific methodologies, concluding with an overview of the technology’s exciting possibilities and diverse applications.
Dr. M. Karthic, Assistant Professor, Thiagarajar College of Engineering, presenting on “3D printing, biomaterials, and composite structures”. He gave a session focused on how 3D printing is being used in the medical field. He also talked about the biomaterials and composite structures involved in these applications.
Both sessions were highly informative and well-received by participants, setting an excellent precedent for academic and professional development at SRM MCET.
Subsequently, certificates were awarded to the participants, followed by a Vote of Thanks by Dr. R. Ashok Kumar, expressing gratitude to the guests, participants, and organizing team.
